Mrs Gates Children and Family Support Worker

20 January 2021 15:54

Hello, my name is Mrs Alexandra Gates and I am the Child and Family Pastoral Support Worker at St Margaret’s CE School.

In my role, I work directly with children, as well as teachers and parents/carers to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children at our school. I can also provide direct support and intervention, as well as access to information and advice.

Supporting Families

I can offer approachable and confidential support and signposting in all areas of family life. I am trained in counselling skills so you can be assured that I will actively listen to any concerns without judgement. I can offer support in a number of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Support and advice with promoting positive behaviour at home
  • Assistance with paperwork and forms
  • Attendance and support at school or external agency meetings
  • Support and guidance with career or personal development
  • Providing information and signposting to other services in the local area

Supporting Children

I also work directly with children to support their social and emotional wellbeing. I am ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) trained, which means that I have had training from Educational Psychologists and receive ongoing supervision to help maintain high quality in the work I undertake with children. I aim to develop warm, respectful relationships with the children at St Margaret’s in order to provide a reflective space where they are able to share honestly their thoughts and feelings. Areas that I can support with include:

  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Attendance
  • Social skills
  • Emotions
  • Bereavement
  • Anger management

This is not an exhaustive list. The ELSA approach can be used to support in many areas of difficulty.

As a parent myself, I am well aware of the challenges and that we all need a little help sometimes. If you feel that you could do with some support, please get in touch.
