The Worshipping Life of our School

At the heart of our Church of England school is our vision to be a shining light of love, aspiration and excellence that nurtures and enables all children to grow into the person God intended them to be.

Collective Worship at St Margaret's School
As a Voluntary Aided Church of England school, daily collective worship is at the heart of our school life. It is a time when our whole community comes together to pause, reflect, and explore the Christian faith. Worship is inclusive, invitational, and inspiring – rooted in the teachings of Jesus and the values of the Church of England, while also offering space for personal reflection, whatever a child’s own beliefs.

Through stories, prayer, music, and reflection, children are encouraged to think about their place in the world, to develop spiritually and morally, and to live out our school’s Christian values in everyday life. Worship is central to nurturing our caring, respectful and inclusive community.

Monday - Whole School Collective Worship - a time to come together as a school, introduce a theme for the week, sing, and pray for the week ahead.
Tuesday - Praise & Worship -
Wednesday - Key Stage Collective Worship - led by St Margaret's Church
Thursday - Class or Year Group Collective Worship - we use this time to explore and reflect upon a current affairs issue using the resource Picture News.
Friday - Whole School Collective Worship - a celebration and time of thanksgiving.

Reflection and Prayer

Each class has a 'Reflection Area' to support opportunities to pause, reflect and pray - we have a whole school theme for the half term which classes will use.

We have times of daily prayer in classes - we have started to create a school prayer book to guide us during these times with contributions from the Church, staff and children.

The Church run a monthly Prayer Group who meet the first Friday of each month (term-time) at 9am in St Margaret's church vestry hall. (Situated at the upper end of car park through the iron gate). All are welcome to join.

Some of our staff meet once a fortnight for 'Prayer and Pastries' to pray for each other and to pray for the school.

We are very proud of our close relationship with our local St Margaret's church. Read more about our partnership here: St Margaret's Church

Our Christian Union ( Lighthouse Club) runs each week, led by the Youth and Children's Worker from St Margaret's Church.
