At St Margaret’s CE Primary, our Christian vision, “Created to Shine” (Matthew 5:14), underpins our Religious Education curriculum, Faith & Wonder. We believe every child is uniquely created and valued by God, with the potential to flourish and make a positive difference in the world. Through Faith & Wonder, we nurture pupils’ ability to love others, aspire to grow in wisdom, and shine as confident, compassionate individuals within their school, community, and beyond.
'Religious Education' at our school is reframed as 'Faith and Wonder' in order for the children to more easily understand the nature of their learning; an exploration into 'Faith' and its meaning and 'Wonder' at God's plans for his incredible, created world.
Our teaching of Christianity is primarily supported by the Understanding Christianity resource, which enables children to engage with key theological concepts and reflect on life’s big questions. To broaden their knowledge and encourage respect for diversity, we also use The Emmanuel Project to explore a range of world religions, promoting understanding and tolerance both in school and in the wider world.
Children are encouraged to consider what it means to have faith and are given opportunities to develop their own spiritual awareness within an open, inclusive, and caring environment.
Faith & Wonder learning is closely linked with wider curriculum areas such as English, Art, History, and Geography, enabling children to explore meaningful concepts and values that enrich society.
In lessons, pupils are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, share ideas, and deepen their understanding, while also reflecting on their own beliefs. To ensure progression, teachers assess pupils’ learning at the end of each unit, supporting every child on their journey of growth.
