At St Margaret’s CE Primary School, we believe every child is Created to Shine. In Science, we nurture each child’s talents and curiosity so they grow in confidence and understanding. Our curriculum is rooted in our values of Love and Aspire- love for learning and for one another, and the aspiration to reach their full potential.
Through science at St Margarets CE Primary school, we believe that it can inspire children to shine by nurturing curiosity, creativity and compassion. Through exploring the natural world, children will know how things work but also how they can care for the world and the people within it. We encourage children to live out our values of love through respect for life, responsibility for the environment and kindness in collaboration. Our science curriculum helps every child to aspire by giving opportunities to question, think critically and use their knowledge to bring light and hope to the future.
Our science curriculum aims to help pupils build knowledge, develop key skills, and find joy in learning. We encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence so that every child can love learning and aspire to achieve their best.
Our science curriculum aims to get children to think and work like a scientist. We want to encourage our children to think critically, develop their working scientific skills and have a curiosity and fascination about the world around them.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced from Early Years to Year 6 to ensure learning builds step by step. Lessons are practical, engaging and inclusive, allowing all pupils to access the subject and succeed. We focus on developing key vocabulary, understanding and meaningful application of knowledge.
Science is taught with a practical approach, where children from EY to Year 6 have the opportunity to work scientifically in each topic they learn. Children are able to enquire by having experiences of creating their own investigations to come up with conclusive judgements supported by their knowledge and their results.
We know our curriculum is successful when pupils can talk confidently about their learning, show pride in their work, and demonstrate progress over time. Pupils enjoy science and understand its importance in everyday life.
Through our progressive and practical science curriculum children can show their learning through theoretical and practical opportunities. Pupil voices are recorded in books to show their responses in lessons. There are clear objectives set out at the beginning of each lesson and children are assessed at the end of each unit. Most importantly, children are excited and show enthusiasm in a world of awe and wonder.
We enrich learning through experiences that bring science to life- such as trips, workshops, clubs and visitors. These opportunities help children love learning and aspire to new challenges.
We enrich our learning in science through having opportunities to do investigations and explore the outside world through our extensive school grounds. There are also opportunities in the curriculum to have visitors and workshops in to school to have an exciting and engaging learning opportunities.
