The Tomlin Centre is a Specialist Support Centre for children with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) for social communication differences and/or a diagnosis of autism. The new building was opened in 2024 with a planned capacity of 12 pupils and is now at full capacity, with pupils ranging from Year 1 to Year 5. The Centre is equipped with a main classroom and additional learning spaces, kitchen
area, calm room to support pupils to regulate their emotions, sensory room to support sensory integration needs and an outside garden space.
The aim of the Tomlin Centre is for children to be supported to access a mainstream curriculum and work towards being successful in a mainstream environment. This can look very different for each child, with some pupils accessing their mainstream classroom on a daily basis, and other pupils supported with individualised learning in the Tomlin Centre. This is to best support the needs identified in their EHCP and to help them to make the next steps with their learning. All pupils are allocated a Mainstream Class and are encouraged to join their peers for a range of activities where possible, but also have the support of the Tomlin Centre whenever necessary.
Every child has an individual timetable that is in place to meet their needs. This is assessed and adapted regularly in discussion with mainstream class teachers, parents and other agencies where appropriate. Each child has an ‘Individual Support Plan’ to support their provision and promote positive behaviour for learning. Each child also has an ‘Individual Learning Plan’ to support their personalised learning. This learning plan includes key targets from assessment tracking documents and from their EHCP or Annual Review targets.
Our dedicated staff work with love and aspiration to help all our pupils shine!
