Thursday 30th April

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have all had a good weekend and have continued to enjoy the great weather we are having. There is lots in this week's newsletter, particularly in the 'Important Notices & Attachments' section. Please read carefully.

This week we welcome Mrs Green to our Tomlin Centre staff.  As you know, we have extended our school leadership team, and we have welcomed lots of new faces to school over the last year.

Sometimes it can be difficult to know who to talk to when you have a query or a concern, so we have put together a document to help show you who to go to and in which order.  If in doubt, do ask, and we can direct you to the right person. Please see the link to our website for this helpful guide :  Who to contact at St Margaret's CE Primary School.  Our school website also has a staff list with photos if you are not sure who is who!

This Week at St Margaret’s

  • A successful sporting week at St Margaret's! Not only have all our children been busy practising for this week's Mini-Marathon on Friday, but we have had lots of children representing the school in extracurricular competitions too. Our Key Stage 1 did brilliantly at the multi-skills festival earlier in the week, with Year 2 coming away as overall winners. Year 3 and Year 4 children also did really well in their handball tournament held at the Angmering School. It is great to see lots of different children taking part in a range of sports. A big thank you to Miss Norcross for organising these events.
  • Year 5 and 6 children had a session with PC Dan Siburn this week (our community police officer). PC Siburn spoke to the children about staying safe online and helping them to understand the risks and laws around this too.
  • A message from Mrs Bray: The children have been learning about sun safety this week. Please can parents apply sunscreen before school, while ensuring children have hats and suitable clothing. Thank you.

  • On Friday St Margaret's Church Prayer Group are meeting in the Vestry Hall at 9.00am.  All parents and carers are welcome to attend.

  • Year 6 Leavers hoodies have now been handed out. A reminder that Leavers hoodies can’t be worn in place of school uniform or PE kit just yet, but we will let you know when they can. There will also be other events throughout the rest of this term where children are able to wear their Leavers hoodies (e.g. Cobnor).

Next Week at St Margaret's

  • Monday is a Bank Holiday and so school will be closed.  Let's hope the sunny weather continues into the long weekend!
  • On Wednesday 6th May there is a Key Stage 2 Quad Kids competition.  More information to follow.

Important Notices & Attachments

  • Parking - I am sorry to have write again to remind parents and carers about the importance of parking legally and safely at pick and drop off. I am receiving numerous complaints from local residents about cars being parked on double yellow lines, across resident's driveways, on corners of road junctions and more. Traffic enforcement officers and the police are increasing their presence around the roads at key times.  Please can you also be mindful of not parking close to our entrance driveway, as when vehicles try to turn in past parked cars, it is difficult to swing close to the intercom post.
  • Next academic year we are aligning our INSET days with the Angmering School. School will be closed to pupils for INSET days in 2026/2027 on:
    Tuesday 1st September
    Friday 25th September
    Friday 27th November
    Monday 30th November
    Monday 4th January
  • We are now a Silver accredited Smartphone Free School. Please see our website for more information about mobile phones in school - Mobile Phones . A Smartphone Free Childhood parent group has recently formed and over 40 parents have already signed up. This parent-led initiative has a WhatsApp group for St Margaret's School within the West Sussex Smartphone Free Childhood Community. A link to join has been posted onto Year Group's parents' WhatsApp, but if you want more information please let me know, and I can point you in the direction of some of the parents who are involved in this.
  • Children in Reception and Years 1 to 3 must be supervised by parents/carers before classroom doors open at 8:30am. Our supervision does not start until 8:30am and so children in these year groups must not be left by themselves before then.
  • Year 4 Dalesdown Residential - Please complete all paperwork and return it to Mrs Glossop in the school office.  Year 6 Cobnor packs are coming home today.  Please complete all the paperwork and return to Mrs Glossop. Year 6 Bikeability Parent Consent forms need to be returned if your child would like to take part.  Payment (£20) is via your MCAS app and must be made by Friday 15th May.
  • See the attached letter regarding School Discos for Years 1 - 6 on Tuesday 19th May 2026.
